In addition, the pad prevents movements of the actual foundation of the rug, which prevents undue wear. There are two types of pads used: non-skid and dura-hold. The non-skid is a very thin latex pad, while the dura-hold is thicker by design which adds additional “body and cushion” to the carpet. Again, each type’s major function is to prevent movement.
