Excellent Carpet Maintenance

You can rely on the experts at J Namnoun Rug Gallery to get timely maintenance for your carpet and improve the appearance of your room.

Carpet Cleaning Tip Guide

  • How often should an oriental rug be cleaned?

On average, we recommend general cleaning and maintenance every three to five years. This will vary depending on lifestyle and frequency of use.

Please contact our staff to determine the appropriate cleaning schedule for your individual piece.

  • Where should I take my rug to be cleaned?

Where else, but the J. Namnoun Rug Gallery! We have a dedicated staff and state-of-the-art cleaning facility located on the premise specifically for the care of your oriental rug.

  • Do I need a pad underneath my oriental rug?

Yes, pads are specifically designed to prevent movement of the piece. Primarily, it will prevent slippage underfoot while individuals are walking on and/or around the carpet. In addition, the pad prevents movements of the actual foundation of the rug, which prevents undue wear. There are two types of pads used: non-skid and dura-hold. The non-skid is a very thin latex pad, while the dura-hold is thicker by design which adds additional “body and cushion” to the carpet. Again, each type’s major function is to prevent movement.

  • Can an oriental rug be put over wall-to-wall carpeting?

Yes, we have a specific pad that is designed to work over wall-to-wall. Please inquire with our staff for more information.

Carpet Cleaning Maintenance Tips

  • How often do you need to rotate your rugs?

The rug experts at J Namnoun Rug Gallery suggest that you rotate your rugs and carpets at least once a year. This means turning the rug 180 degrees. This helps the rug to wear more evenly. Sunlight can cause fading, traffic patterns can cause uneven wear, and rug cleaning just can’t undo that. So, rotate your rugs and avoid excessive fading or deterioration.

  • Why do you need to vacuum your rugs?

Vacuuming is an essential part of the rug and carpet cleaning for most rugs because dirt and sand act as abrasives and can damage or break down the fibers of your rug. Vacuum rugs by going over them in both directions, especially on rugs with a traffic pattern. This will help prevent matting.

  • Do you need professional rug cleaning?

The services of a professional rug cleaner, J Namnoun Rug Gallery, should be utilized periodically to ensure your rugs get a complete and thorough hand-cleaning to help keep them at their best. A professional will know the best cleaning methods for the different types of rugs. It is highly recommended to always let the professional clean many types of rugs such as

    machine-made, hand-made, new and old.

Here’s a practical rule of thumb to keep in mind: The more valuable or sentimental a rug is or the more fragile it may be, the more you should be inclined to have the rug professionally cleaned.

  • Does your carpet need cleaning?

There are signs that let you know if your rug needs to be cleaned. Take a plain white towel and dampen it and then rub it across the surface of the rug. If the towel becomes soiled, you’ll know that the rug needs to be cleaned. Lift a corner of the rug and if dirt comes out when you slap the rug with the back of your hand, it’s time for a good cleaning.

Look at the foundation of the rug by gently pulling the fibers apart and if you see dirt in the warp and weft threads of the foundation, then a good rug cleaning is needed.

  • Accidents happen! What should you do?

It’s best to take care of them right away. Usually, quick action and a few simple steps are all you need to take care of a spill. Time is of the essence when there is a spill on a rug. Many wool rugs have “lanolin” in them which is a natural oil to protect the wool. This helps by repelling a lot of liquids giving you a few minutes to start taking action.

Most liquids can be blotted with a plain white paper towel if done before the liquid has a chance to be absorbed into the rug. Liquids such as red wine, orange soda, etc that can stain the wool, we recommend blotting up as much as you can with a white towel and use club soda to dilute the spill. If the spill has not come out entirely, call J. Namnoun’s immediately. Do not use a rubbing or scrubbing motion, as that will spread the liquid and/or cause pile distortion.

Food spills that are solid or semi-solid (things like peanut butter, jelly, fruit, or ice cream) can be picked up with a spoon or the edge of a blunt knife. The remaining stain can be removed using club soda and white paper to blot and absorb the moisture.

Please contact our knowledgeable staff who will be happy to help you with any questions or concerns you may have regarding purchases, appraisals, rug maintenance, carpet cleaning, and carpet restoration. All services are performed on-site.
