Hand knotted Oriental carpets have been used in home decoration for over 2000 years. The
earliest fragments date back to 400 BC. Treasured by princes, nobles, merchants and the average
man; they are still the most misunderstood, complicated and confusing of all home furnishings
purchased today. For this reason, it is so important to work with an expert in this field with
whom you can trust.
The J. Namnoun Oriental Rug Gallery opened in Hartford, CT more than 30 years ago. Joseph
Namnoun placed a strong emphasis on the education of his clients. There is no deception,
inflated valuations or false discounts. Over the years, he taught classes and seminars, curated
exhibits and worked as an expert appraiser in the field of Oriental Rugs.
In 1992, Joe Namnoun partnered with Marianne Donahue, a Professional Interior Designer and
member of ASID. Their combined backgrounds of art, design and antiquities put the J. Namnoun
Oriental Rug Gallery in the special category of Boutique Dealer.
In 1996, Andrew Jean and Greg Lee came on board learning from Joe and Marianne,
implementing their own styles. While learning about the cleaning and repair side to the business,
Andrew and Greg developed their knowledge of new rugs and antiques.
Today, Andrew and Greg work diligently with customers, designers, insurance companies,
museums and anyone with a desire or need of a rug to be purchased, cleaned and repaired, as
well as appraisals. With the rug market constantly changing, they are always adapting their
inventory to meet the needs of their clients. In 2017, Andrew and Greg proudly took over the business
they helped build with Joe and Marianne.
Rug Selection and Interior Design Services for residential, professional and commercial settings
is complimented with a full-service wash and restoration department. Every rug is hand selected
that goes into their inventory. They concentrate on the finely crafted artisan workshop pieces that
are unique to the market and will become tomorrow’s heirlooms. Their highly skilled weavers
work meticulously on the repair of damaged rugs. Fringe detail, moth holes, animal chews, tears
and stains are just some of the many issues worked on daily in the J. Namnoun’s own shop. Your
rugs never leave their facility.
For the customer with more contemporary taste, a large selection of decorative broadloom,
natural fiber products and custom design area rugs in a variety of price points are available.
Many times, you will hear, “I’ve been everywhere, and I’ve never seen rugs like these.” Almost
always you will hear, “The service is so different here, it’s not pushy and very attentive.”
Come see the difference at The J. Namnoun Rug Gallery.
